Farmer leader Dinesh Shirwala's birthday - blood donation camp Without people's power, people cannot live independently - B.R. Jayant

Sagara (Shivamogga)

Without people's power, people cannot live independently, said B.R. Jayant, President of the Samajwadi Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee.

They were held at the Raitha Bhawan in the premises of the Agricultural Products Market Committee of Sagar under the joint auspices of the Karnataka State Farmers' Association and the Shimoga District Branch of the Green Army and the Rotary Red Cross Center of Sagar. He was speaking at the inauguration of a blood donation camp organized to celebrate the 41st birthday of Dinesh Shirwala, the district president of the Farmers' Association.

He encouraged the farmers' association to continue its pro-people struggles, saying that the power of the people must be there to counter the power of the administration. Only through organizational power can it highlight the mistakes of the administration and draw attention to the problems so that they can be addressed.

There is currently a shortage of leaders who have developed leadership through popular struggles. The absence of exemplary leaders like Kagoduthimappa in the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabhas means there is no response to problems. He lamented that there are no permanent solutions to people's problems.

Kagoduthimappa lost the election in 1978. At that time, the government took strict action to collect revenue from the farmers on land accounts. The Land Development Bank was entrusted with the collection of revenue from the farmers.

He recalled that 2,500 farmers were imprisoned after Kagodaru called against the planned auction of land for which revenue was not paid. As a result of Kagoduthimappa's struggle, the revenue dues of Beni farmers were waived.

Today, even though such a dire situation is faced again, there is a lack of struggle. He said that it is a tragedy that the applications of 2 lakh 40 thousand farmers filed under the Forest Rights Act were dismissed due to the lack of skilled, experienced and pro-people representatives.

Speaking at the Sagar Blood Bank Center, Shivukumar H.M. said that it was Kagodutimmappa who gave legal permission in 2018 to start a blood bank center in a taluk center like Sagar.

In the last 7 years, 23,000 units of blood have been collected from the Sagar Blood Bank. Every year, the Sagar Blood Bank requires 4,000 units of blood, and Rs. 4 lakh is being spent every month for the maintenance of the blood bank, he said.

Former Assembly Speaker Kagoduthimappa inaugurated the blood donation camp and said that he would like to express his gratitude for making the birth anniversary of the pro-people fighter a rare event through blood donation.

KDP member Satyanarayana GT was present. The program was presided over by the district vice-president of the Farmers' Association, Ramesh E Keladi, who said that along with the struggle, our aim is to make the fighter's birthday meaningful through blood donation through social programs.
